Baroque Works in Wonderland

Done! I am finally done. After almost a year of the lineart floating through my folder of unfinished pictures! I'm almost a little embarrassed as to how long it really took me to complete it. Much time was inversted into this picture. Many, many hours and right into the middle of it, I started to wonder how some artists manage to finish a picture of this depth in such little time. I presume it has to do with practice. I sure got a lot of that in this one. The amount of different methods I tried out is...lets just say: overwhelming.
I am very proud of it but I see all those mistakes as well. To be honest, in the end you just want to be done, get it over with and you stop bothering too much. That's what happend with me. I re-did many things and I'm still not quite satisfied but I'll leave it at that.

This scene displays the first four pairs of members of Baroque Works, an organisation led by Sir Crocodile, who is one of the main villians in one of the arcs in One Piece. And of course, those of you who know the manga or anime will recognise Nico Robin, who will be an ally to the strawhats.
All of those characters are placed within Lewis Carroll's world of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass and what Alice found there. I like to mention that this idea came to me before Tim Burton's Alice showed up on screen. I very much like Tim Burton but I also very much disliked that movie. Don't get me wrong. It was well done, technically and of course, Johnny Depp is a master in his field but the movie was crap. Sorry, fans.
I loved Alice as a child and still love it. And since I started to love Baroque Works...well, the step was easily taken. xD

In the description for the lineart you'll find me mentioning that I wanted to turn this work and others into a calendar for the year 2011. Obviously, I didn't make it. Given, that it took me a whole year to get one of the needed 12 finished, I decided to drop the idea. For now at least. There will be more group pictures of Baroque Works though.

You will notice that some of the charcters have names which are originally unknown. Since the whole thing is part of a RPG which I play with ~Eniell we needed to make them up. As to Sierra and Miroko. Well, they are Eniell's creations and part of our fantasy so they had to be included into my picture. By the way, in case you wondered, Sierra is a ghost. That's precisely why he is almost seethrough.
